Evaluation

1. How the two media products are linked

We have linked our media products in many ways, which can be seen in all 3 of them. For example, we have managed to insert the logo into all 3 of our products, showing a clear brand identity between the 3 products, and to make it all the more clear than they are all linked.

We have included our slogan in 2 of our products, which was the website, and the social media pages. we could not find a way to input it into our film trailer, so we didn't use it there, but we did use it in the others, so it does still have a decent degree of brand identity in it

We have also kept the images pretty uniform, as we need to make sure every one is uniform, and therefore recognizable throughout every product. For example, we took them all ourselves, and the ones that we created are all very similar, like all of the logos featured on Facebook, and we have basically kept every image we have to show that we are linking them, and improving them.

We have linked them all through contact details, and we featured the website link in both the film trailer, and the website. We also featured the phone number on the website. While it may be true that we could have put the phone number in the film trailer, I actually have a good reason for not doing it, as putting it on the website would make it possible to input some skype capability, so it would be easier to use some social media. While we could have put it in the movie trailer, we decided against it

We have made sure to keep the target audience to be the same for all of the 3 products. If you visit all of our 3 products, you will notice that in our 2 text driven products, we have told the target audience about copyright, but we have used smaller words, so it's easier to understand, yet not condescending. Also, in our movie trailer, we have made the idea of being hurt by piracy so overemphasized, so its easier to understand by people who don't have time to think about what's going on, but not too overemphasized.

I am going to list the results the brief want me to have below, and show how I have stayed true to this:
· realise the implications of copyright theft for the future of our creative minds;
· understand that copyright theft is genuine theft;
· know who ‘Copyright Heroes’ are and what we believe.
I do believe that we have done enough to make our target audience to realise the implications of copyright theft. I believe that through the falling out of the protagonist/antagonist does symbolise the distrust experienced between the producer and the fans throughout their career. We have also shown that copyright theft is genuine theft, as my character in the trailer gets rich from something that isn't actually his, and is therefore stealing the content, and therefore genuine theft. Finally, we mentioned in both the Social media pages, and the website, that people should visit the copyright heroes website, showing that we are informing them. Therefore, overall we have stayed pretty true to the brief.

Again, we have linked all of the product through brand identity, using the same logo and it also has connected it through the links and things, and basically the pictures, but we have still connected all of the 3 products from our group, and whatever.

2. How research has been used to fulfil the brief and meet the needs of the client

The brief, right near the bottom,  asked what I stated earlier, which I am going to put here too, for the sake of convenience:

· realise the implications of copyright theft for the future of our creative minds;
· understand that copyright theft is genuine theft;
· know who ‘Copyright Heroes’ are and what we believe.

To understand that copyright theft is genuine theft, in my research, I looked up many campaigns which used certain legal documents to back up the fact that theft of copyright is illegal, and genuinely actually theft. I've also looked up other campaigns to realise the implications of copyright theft. While none really show the effect on actual people, many of the campaigns dramatise the idea.

My research made me look into different types of campaign similar to my own, and the issues always mentioned was that it was against the law. So I decided not to focus on that as much when making mine, and I decided to take a different approach to making it, as everyone knows that it is against the law to own pirated goods, so it is pointless to continue commenting on something that everyone knows, therefore I am not going to mention that as much in my campaign as it is mentioned in most campaigns out there.

However we did want to teach a lesson, like all of the other adverts we researched, so our research made us decided that while we did want to follow what they did, in teaching people a lesson about piracy, we also wanted to not make the product too preachy, so it would at least be mildly enjoyable to watch, as without at least some enjoyment, there would be no reason to watch it, and it would just get too boring, a problem that many of the other adverts we watched had.

How exactly we kept to the brief was that we did show that that copyright theft is making a big difference to the future of our creative minds, as we showed a character walk away from his friend who was illegally sharing copyrighted material, and the idea that a creator has lost faith in his fans can be inferred from that, showing the implications. We also believe that we showed exactly what copyright heroes are and what they believe, through our facebook and website moreso than our film trailer.

I believe that my project stayed true to the brief at all times.You can see at all stages of my planning/ production that I attempted to say true to the brief at all times, and structured my project around it first and foremost. I haven't stopped refering to it, and therefore my final production is very similar to what the brief would want it to be. Therefore I have done it to a good level

3. The media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

The products which I created show appropriate conventions. The film trailer has the easiest to see version of this. The conventions of film trailers is that they normally tell a story. My film trailer follows that convention, as the film trailer is very easy to notice. Another convention of film trailers is the use of text over music, which my film trailer does also show. This shows that my product adheres to the conventions of it's genres, and therefore it looks more realistic

I have taken some inspiration from real media products. The entire structure of the trailer pays homage to the structure of many other film trailers, and many PSAs. Our website also takes homage from other websites, so it isn't all too new to people, so it won't be jarring to view for people who are new to the web .It also takes inspiration from other social media, so it will also be a smooth transition from social media page to social media page.

I will now post my film on here,so I can compare it to similar film trailers. The trailer style that came to mind, whenever I watched my trailer, was patch adams. While it doesn't feature much black text, it has the same kind of style as it. However, it is shorter. The other trailer that it reminds me of, is the Piracy- It's a crime. It does not feature much of a story, or similar music, however the length is around the same as that of our trailer. I feel that we managed to make a mixture between the 2, which I believe is actually pretty good, and it worked.

 To start off with, here is one still image from our trailer. It is an establishing shot, and it is showing the area that this trailer was filmed in, which is baldock. This follows one convention of trailers in general, as they all start off very similar, like with an establishing shot, so the trailer is familiar to people, and isn't jarring to people at all.
 Another good shot in the trailer is this one. It is also a medium shot, so it also links well to other film trailers, as it is an actual shot. This shot also shows the two primary characters, Ewan's character is the protagonist, and he was the content creator, who's content got stolen by the primary antagonist, played by me. This is the final conformation scene, and is when one friend ditches another, and it the most dramatic scene of the entire movie.
 This is an earlier scene in the film trailer. It still features me and Ewan, but it is now a long shot, and since it is earlier, me and Ewan are friends. He trusted me with a SD card, and if you look at what I'm wearing, I look a bit more evil than I could, as it's not exactly a subtle trailer, but it works, and it isn't a condescending trailer, so it's alright.
Finally, this is another scene from the movie. This scene shows the protagonist in our movie, talking to a secondary antagonist, played by Charles. This scene is when Charles, not knowing Ewan, shows his music to it's original creator. This is when the trailer shows the friend finding out that one of his friend gave his music out, and this is basically when the friendship was broken, as he found out about all the bad stuff that Joel did.

For this, I didn't really develop many conventions. The reason I stayed true to all of them was because I didn't want to risk making it hard to watch, but since I just used them, it worked alright, and it's not boring to watch, it just worked well, which is why I decided to stay safe,and not risking making it new and jarring to watch to people who watch a lot of trailers, so it works better than something very new.

4.Who would be the audience for your media product

The target audience of my trailer is 14-18 year olds, so it's slightly varied to people, but it is all teenagers, so it links in all very well. It is trying to target both genders, however it is targeting males a little more, considering the fact it is staring all males, so girls might not like it as much, as there are no females in the movie at all, even though it was planned. It is aimed at more middle-class people, as it features a lot of technology that they know, and they are all obviously middle class enough, so it's aimed at middle class people, so it works. Their interests would probably include music, like punk and just things I like, like comic books, as they would enjoy it the most out of all people, as that is who we focused it at. Their lifestyle would be normal, like having schools, a couple of days out, and basically nothing really that much.

The reason why it is like this is because Charles and I are both around that age, and that we are into, so we understand our target audience better than it could be if we had targeted other audiences, so it works pretty well. Since we are both literally in the target audience, we can be the best in the trailer, so it will work better than others

What my target audience wants is to be educated, but not overly so, as they do go to school, and at this age are starting to want to learn street smarts, and are figuring out what's right, and what's wrong. But they don't want to focus on educations, as they get around 30 hours of that per week as it is, so they therefore seek a balance between education, and I believe me and Charles hit that sweet spot on the head with our campaign, especially our film trailer, which informs about piracy being wrong, but not exactly outwardly, which I'm proud of, as it informs people without even mentioning the idea of copyright even once, and if the viewers want more like that, they only have to go to the website, which is even linked at the end of the film trailer.

We had 2 chances for feedback from the target audience throughout the campaign. The first time we mentioned our initial ideas for our campaign was nearer the beginning, just after we had finished our research, and in which we mentioned our ideas for our campaigns. The second was after we had finished our planning, and when we were just about to start making our products. The feedback from our target audience, which happened to basically be the class. However, most of the feedback is about the presentation, however, that actually helped me in the long run, as it was telling me to speak up, so it helped me film the trailer, as I spoke up in that. Also, some feedback was to go more in-depth with all the subject, and I followed it, so I've gone more in-depth than before, even including this very evaluation. The survey mentioned a lot of them did piracy, and I used that to inspire me to help make the subject.

My film trailer opening uses the white text against black background, so it's pretty simple, and doesn't require much thinking, which is really good for not having to think about it too much, which is good for my target audience, as they don't have the time to think too much, so it is better to use simple techniques.

We also use establishing shots to put our audience in the mind of the area, so they know where the film is taking place, so it works.

Again, I've used survey feedbacks, like the one we made back in the beginning of the project, as that helped us decided what to focus on, and that's what we did. Also, we used the feedback we got during the presentation, as we went incredibly in-depth on our website, mentioning things such as piracy, and on our social media pages. and there it worked for us. We also learnt that our target audience isn't a stupid as some people say they are, and they require something for some thought, so therefore it works pretty well.

5.How does your media product represent particular groups, people, place etc?

In our film trailer, there are only 3 actors in the entire trailer: Me, Charles, and Ewan. We are shown as different character, who we put our style into, so we are not represented as much of a piece of paper, as we are different characters. The places that feature is basically just baldock, and a small area, because it was a very good area to film in,and it looks like a different area, for what it is worth. They are shown as different areas, and different ideas, and basically different things, because we wanted our trailer to be different, but also the same, so we went ahead and made that.

We have represented our survey feedback by informing the people who didn't really know that piracy wasn't bad, and just went ahead and attempted to represent the idea that piracy is a very bad thing to make the trailer work for these people, but we represented our own view on it, instead of necessarily the laws review, but we do agree with that for the most part.

The youths in our trailer, as it literally just features them, are basically less like the generic teenage character in most movies, and more like actual teens. Of course, it still features a little exposition, as it does need to tell a story, but overall, they are represented to a good level of reality about youths, and since we only featured youths, there wasn't any contact between adults and teens, but that wasn't really required,so it ended up being alright, for what it was.

We had 2 opposite representation of teens in general in our film trailer. One positive, Ewan, as he showed that some teens are actually talented enough to create content worth stealing, and they have faith in their friends too, but as seen in the end, is still completely honest. However, we have two negative characters, me, and to a lesser extent in this case, Charles. I'm obviously the more negative character here, as I take advantage of the trust that ewan gives me, and pass it on to a random person. But I do get my comeuppance. And we have Charles too. Charles is a bit less of an evil person, but he isn't exactly a protagonist, as he does agree to pass on the SD card, so he is sort of a follower, and it is implied that he does pass it on, as he randomly starts talking to Ewan to pass on the music, not know that it's ewan who owns the music.

There aren't really much locations we used. Since we basically just filmed in the same basic location,it isn't much change. However, we used that area pretty well, as we attempted to make the area seem like it's in a lot of new places, and I believe we succeeded, as it is looked like we filmed in various different places, so we represented the area in a very good way. I do not believe that it is very noticeable, as I honestly can't really tell sometimes, when watching it.

We used image in a pretty good way, as we showed the area that we filmed in the background to make the trailer more believable, and in the area is a good representation of baldock, as it have green sections, and also houses, a lot like the town actually has, and we just filmed in this area, and nowhere else in baldock. The sound we used was voice, and we used it pretty well, but we used more tense music to make it seem more tense, and to keep the audience entertained, which I believe worked. We also used a more real colour tone, through my camera, as we believe that that was the best way to represent the story, and I believe that was the best way, and that it also works too.

The reason I've represented in this way is because it seem to be the best way for the subject to get out, which is why I made it like this, so I believe that it worked that it worked pretty well considering the fact it is about a bit of a touchy subject, so I'm happy with what I did

6 The project process is organised and scheduled

Me and Charles organised ourselves to around half and half. I focused on the film trailer, and all the script writing about it, and Charles focused a bit more on the social media pages, and the website. We ended up helping out each other, so we've done about even with each other, as we both focused on our own strengths, so therefore I believe that the trailer and website and social media pages ended up being the best it could end up being, and I'm sure Charles will agree

I have to be honest, we didn't really plan out the project, but I don't really believe that really changed that much. However, we did plan out who did what, like I mentioned in the preceding paragraph.I should also mention that we did the project in the order that was given, which did really help, because it gave us some direction about it, instead of just being random, like it could be if we just went off the top of our heads, so we do have some direction

The planning process, like the script writing, really helped the film trailer be written, like it gave the project some direction, and for when Charles helped me, it really helped the film trailer come along, as we made the project work pretty well, considering the fact that we helped each other. The same can be said for the social media pages, and the website, as we really did end up really helping each other at this point, and it really did work, at least in my opinion

We didn't really change our website, or our social media pages. However, we did end up changing the film trailer quite a lot. Originally, I had planned the film trailer to be an actual short film, but I figured out that that wouldn't work eventually. We then had the idea in our minds, however, we had a lot of different ideas. Up to a very late point, we had planned to have much more actors than the 3 we had, and that would have included girls, and much more locations, but in the end, due to time constraints,and sick/busy actors, we ended up comfortably making it with 3. I believe it could have been better with more actors, but I still believe it works at this point.

Overall, we ended up working to time pretty well, but we had some blunders. For example, we only ended up finishing the filming project the day before we went back to school, and it took a while to edit the trailer too, and it took a long time to get the website up and running. But again, overall, the project was completed mostly to time, therefore I believe that it worked pretty well in the long run, so I'm happy how the project went overall, at least timewise

7. Consideration of rules and regulations and media institutions and why?

The ASA mention that in my advertising of the movie that I should be legal, decent, honest and truthful. I have been legal, as I have both only used my own content, and I have also used royalty free music too, so the trailer is completely legal, and is therefore completely alright. It is decent, because none of the characters ever swore, and absolutely no nudity was ever even hinted, therefore it is completely decent and correct. It is also honest in what it is. It shows my beliefs towards piracy, and it is not 2 ways about it's story, as it basically tells people my view in one way, as I agree with copyright heroes, and what they say, so it is completely honest about what it says.

You would see my trailer during shows in the cinema, during movies such as the marvel series, as a lot of teens watch movies like that, and our target audience would, as I do, and I am in the target audience me and Charles are aiming for. We would also show it during coming-of-age movies, like a modern breakfast club or whatever, as that is what our target audience sees. We would also put a shortened version of the advert on TV, on E4 at basically any point, because our target audience also watch that too, so we should target our audience as much as we can.

8. How did you work as a team?

I believe that me and Charles worked together relatively well, as we did what we wanted each other to do. However, If I have to be 100% honest, I believe that throughout most of the project, I did a little bit more work than he did. I'm not going to bash him for this though, as he definitely rectified this near the end of the project, as he did end up doing his part, as soon as he realised that he didn't, so I am not bashing him at all.

My contribution was most of the planning, at least on the side of the film trailer. I completed most of the script, for both the presentations, and film trailer, and I did most of the editing, however in this case, I did take a lot of inspiration from Charles, as he did mention a lot, but on the most part, I took the helm for the film trailer,but did help out for the other bits of it, like the social media pages, which Charles took the helm for, and the website, which was given the idea for it to be half and half, which I believe it did end up being.

I believe I did pull my weight. I focused all of my efforts towards the Film trailer , and spent a lot of time, and I did help Charles for when he didn't have the time or whatever to be able to finish the project on time. I'm not saying Charles didn't pull his weight in the end, but If I am being being completely honest, he didn't really do it to begin with. I did end up helping him on his way though, so overall, I do believe that I did pull my weight overall

9- What has been especially successful in your project?

The most successful thing in our project, at least in my opinion, was how the film trailer turned out in the end. One reason why this happened was because it ended up being very well prepared, as I had a script written, and ended up figured out where to film, after a short walk around baldock. I guess I also like it too is because it didn't really have the best of line-ups. It wasn't able to be filmed until very late in the holidays. In the end, though, through the editing process, and basically filming, and all the writing, I just believe that it went the best out of all the things throughout all of the projects we did in the campaign

I believe that team working was another great reason as to why this part went very well, as during the filming and editing part was the part when me and charles outright worked at our best, and we worked at our best together, so therefore, it really worked so well, and, considering the circumstances, I believe that it went so well, and turn out very well.

I'm happy with the script, as I spent so much time on it, and while the script might have changed a couple of times, and the characters might have changed with the actor, but the script was incredibly good, considering it came from me, so I'm happy with what happened in the end.

The style of the trailer was also good for me too, so I'm just happy with what happens, so it all just works. I would watch a movie with the same style as my trailer, which is a sign that it is working, so I'm happy with this part of my project overall.

10. What could be improved?

I think the biggest thing that could be improved is the website. For all the praise I've given it, I believe that it could have gone so much better, because we couldn't figure out what to do for the most part, and we could have gone so much more in depth with it, but in the end, we didn't, which I'm not very happy about, but overall, I would consider it passable, but it could definitely be better, admittingly

Overall, I believe that the reason why I don't like it that much is because overall, I could have done a little bit more towards this, even though Charles did do a great job on his half, because he did all of his parts very well. Also, it would have been better if it had spent more time on it, it could have gone so so much better than it ended up, at least if we had done it right. We could have also spent more time making it look better, if we had the time

So, apart from these 2, I believe that everything went relatively well, and overall I believe that this project went pretty well, so I'm happy with the project, and how it turned out. Sure, it's true that it didn't quite turn out how I originally wanted it to, but I'm just basically happy with what overall happened with the project, and it has it's own charm for me, which,while not the same as what it could have been, still counts for something.
